Sensei Dave Roth


Our head instructor, Dave Roth, has more than 30 years experience studying and teaching martial arts. ​A graduate of the University of Florida, he earned a degree in Business Administration in 1986. He holds black belts in 6 different arts, including karate, jujitsu, judo, kobudo, and close-quarter combat. Sensei Roth has used this extensive background to create the unique integrated curriculum that has made FKA one of the finest martial-arts academies in the world.

Sensei Roth has achieved the levels of 6th-degree black belt in Shorin-ryu Karate, 4th-degree black belt in Okinawan Kobudo, 3rd-degree black belt in Wado-ryu Karate, 3rd-degree black belt in Hand-to-Hand Combat, 2nd-degree black belt in Niseido Jujitsu, 1st-degree black belt in Judo, and 1st-degree black belt in Toyama-ryu Battodo. In 2003, he was awarded the title of Renshi by the International Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate Association.

Positions Held


​In addition to his duties as head instructor of Florida Karate Academy, Sensei Roth is the Shorin-ryu Technical Director for the Traditional Karate Organization. He is also the Region Four Director of the AAU-USA National Karate Program. He has served as a team coach for the AAU-USA National Karate Team. he is an international referee for the World Karate Confederation.


​Honors Received


In 2003, Sensei Roth was honored as the AAU-USA National Coach of the Year. In 2007, he received the Amateur Athletic Union's President's Leadership Award for service to the AAU-USA National Karate Program.
